While searching through Kimsooja's website as a part of my artistic research project, I came across a list of her ongoing projects. Four projects, which I will go into more depth about, are listed on the page. The starting dates of these projects range from 1991to 2010. The wide range of dates surprised me because I was not expecting a project to take over 30 years to complete.
Starting in reverse chronological order, the most recent ongoing project of Kimsooja's was started in 2010. The work, "Thread Routes," is a film series in which she explores several cultures. The description on Kimsooja's website explains that she was first inspired to complete this work in 2002.
"The House Project," was a project started by Kimsooja in 2008. Originally, she had planned to purchase an abandoned house in which she would document before renovating. After purchasing an abandoned house in Norway, Kimsooja's plans for the project changed. Now, she plans on keeping the house as-is and document it through photography and videos.
In 2004, Kimsooja began a project titled, "An Album: Video Portraits Project." From my understanding, this project's goal is to document people that Kimsooja meets throughout her career through portrait photography and videos. This project seems to be personal to Kimsooja's life and is meant to highlight relationships important in her life.
Lastly, in 1991, Kimsooja began a project titled, "Unfolding Botarri - Geometry of Possession." This project consists of photographs taken at flea markets in various cities around the world. The objects that Kimsooja chose to take photos of most likely represent important economic or political symbols of that present time. I was very surprised to learn that this project has been ongoing for 30 years!
Overall, I think that this particular part of my research has made me realize the drastic time and effort that goes into Kimsooja's projects, which only makes her work even more impressive. Unfortunately, images of Kimsooja's work are not yet available, but stay up to date at her website, kimsooja.com | ongoing projects.
